How to Write a Good “Looking For” Request That Gets Useful Replies

A better request helps local providers quickly understand whether they can help.

A vague request such as “need handyman cheap” creates more questions than answers. A good request gives enough context for suitable providers to respond without publishing sensitive personal information.

Describe the outcome

Say what you need done or made. For a repair, include the item and problem. For a cake, include date, size and general style. For tuition, include subject, level and preferred format.

Use a neighbourhood, not your full address

“Tampines” or “near Tampines West MRT” is usually enough for the first stage. Share an exact address privately only when necessary.

Add timing and budget when they are real constraints

A provider can respond more efficiently if they know the job must happen on Saturday or needs to stay within a certain range.

Leave room for clarification

Some jobs cannot be priced accurately from a short description. The request should help with matching, while the final scope and quote should still be confirmed directly.
